EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY AND AIMS

All phases of schooling at St Pius X are underpinned by Brisbane Catholic Education's Learning and Teaching Framework and The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Declaration (2019). The Alice Springs (Mparntwe - pronounced as 'M- ban-tua') Education Declaration sets the national vision for education for all Australians and notes two goals:

The Australian education system promotes excellence and equity.  All young Australians become:

  • Confident and creative individuals
  • Successful lifelong learners
  • Active and informed members of the community

Curriculum design and delivery at St Pius X is grounded in the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration and is mindful of the declaration's goals. In alignment with the declaration, which promotes excellence and equity, we support students to achieve high standards and provide structures and adjusted strategies that enable equitable learning experiences. This is achieved within a faith-filled learning environment in which we are committed to supporting students to become confident and creative individuals, successful lifelong learners and active and informed members of the community.

The Religion Curriculum P-12 is the source for all planning, learning, and teaching of Religion in Brisbane Catholic Education schools.

Religious Education consists of two distinct but complementary dimensions, namely an educational dimension and a faith formation dimension. The first dimension, most commonly referred to as the classroom teaching of religion, is focused on Religious Education as an educational activity. As one of our subject areas, Religious Education is based on an interrelated approach, emphasising the educational alignment between this subject area and the other areas. We align quality Religious Education with the Archdiocesan vision, policies, and guidelines.

The second dimension, faith formation, is reflected in the religious life of the school, family, and parish. As a Catholic school, we aim to effectively support our students in their faith growth by providing opportunities for reflection, prayer, and the celebration of liturgy. We acknowledge that the family is the first place where faith can be nurtured and strive to work in partnership with parents/guardians and our parish.

The Australian Curriculum is the source of all curriculum planning, assessment and reporting for all other key learning areas. Multiple opportunities are provided for each student to develop knowledge, skills and understanding as clearly outlined within the Australian Curriculum through developmentally appropriate and differentiated rich learning experiences.

Our teaching staff maximise engagement, progress and achievement through contemporary and innovative teaching and consistently evaluate the impact of their teaching on the learning progress of each student. We effectively use student data to inform our planning and teaching and learning cycles.

The focus on the whole person underpins the way in which learning and teaching are planned, organised and enacted in our school.  As a Catholic Christian community we educate all to live the gospel of Jesus Christ as successful, creative and confident, active and informed learners empowered to shape and enrich our world. We educate our learners explicitly within a Catholic view of the curriculum to be literate, numerate, critical and creative, ethical, socially and personally capable, inter-culturally capable and ICT capable.
